Can You Mount A TV On A Concrete Wall?

Can You Mount a TV on a Concrete Wall? Absolutely — Here’s How

Mounting anything on a concrete wall might seem intimidating at first, especially if you’re used to the relative simplicity of drywall and stud-finding. But the truth is, you can absolutely mount a TV on a concrete wall — it just takes a little more time and the right tools. The payoff is worth it: a cleaner look, freed-up floor space, and with a tilt or full-motion mount, better viewing angles too.

What You’ll Need

Before you start, gather the right tools. Along with your TV mount kit (which typically includes a wall plate, screws, bolts, washers, spacers, and sometimes heavy-duty hardware like wall anchors and toggle bolts), you’ll need:

  • A marker
  • An electrical hammer drill
  • Masonry drill bits
  • A hammer
  • A level
  • Concrete screws
  • Safety goggles and gloves

Step-by-Step: Mounting Your TV on Concrete

1. Find your spot. Measure the wall to find the center or the most visually appealing position. Hold the wall plate against the wall, remembering that the TV will extend above and below it. Use your level to make sure it’s straight, then mark the center points of the mounting holes directly onto the concrete.

2. Drill the holes. Insert the masonry drill bit into your hammer drill and drill at the marked points. The holes should be deep enough to accommodate your anchors. While you don’t need to worry about studs with a concrete wall, you might hit rebar — the metal bar that reinforces concrete. If you do, stop drilling and either use a cutter to get through the metal or find a new spot.

3. Insert anchors and mount the plate. Once the holes are complete, insert your wall anchors. Line up the mounting plate with the holes, then use your drill to secure the plate to the anchors. Check that everything is centered and aligned.

4. Attach the TV. Carefully mount your TV onto the wall plate. If needed, this is also a good time to conceal the wires for a clean finish.

5. Test the mount. Give the TV a gentle wiggle to make sure it’s mounted securely. If everything feels solid, you’re done!

Mounting a TV on concrete takes more effort and the right tools, but the result is just as secure — often more so — than a drywall installation. With a hammer drill and masonry bits, any DIYer can handle this project.
