With the confusion over its software update policy now largely cleared up, the Motorola Edge 70 Max stands as a genuinely compelling proposition. It features the most powerful chipset in the Edge 70 series — a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 — compared to the Snapdragon 7 and Dimensity 8 series chips in other models. And its 7,100mAh battery dwarfs even the Pro and Pro+ models (6,500mAh), making it the battery king of the lineup.
What Makes It Stand Out
The 90W wired charging is excellent, but the 25W wireless charging with Qi 2.2 support and magnets is even better — a feature that very few Android manufacturers offer on any of their devices.
The display is the best in the family too: a 6.82-inch OLED with 1440p+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and LTPO technology. Peak brightness hits an advertised 7,000 nits.
Build quality is solid with an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 7i on both sides, plus IP68 and IP69 ratings.
The Downsides
No microSD slot. No 3.5mm headphone jack. The camera setup is merely adequate — 50MP main, 8MP ultrawide, 32MP selfie. Given the asking price (starting at £700/€800), it’s not unreasonable to expect more from the cameras.

The Software Question
Motorola’s update policy remains a concern. The Max will get either 3 OS updates or just 2 — even Motorola seems unsure. Security patches could be 5 years or just 3. On a premium-priced phone, that’s a significant consideration.
For alternatives, the Edge 70 Pro offers a 50MP 3.5x telephoto, upgraded ultrawide, and 6,500mAh battery at the same €800 price, while the Pro+ (India variant) starts at ₹48,000.
