Google’s Wear OS 7 update is starting to roll out today for the Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4, introducing a new Live Updates feature that tracks real-time events directly from your Android smartwatch. Live Updates now sync across Wear OS devices, so updates like sports scores or an ongoing food delivery will show up on both your watch and your phone.
You can also expect your watch to last noticeably longer. Google claims Wear OS 7 provides up to 10 percent more battery life than Wear OS 6, a meaningful improvement for users who want to get through a full day and night of wear for sleep tracking.
Wear OS 7 will also introduce some new Gemini Intelligence features, but Google says these aren’t launching until later this year. They’ll include Make My Widget, which lets you generate custom Wear OS widgets using natural language prompts. Google says Gemini will also be able to handle multi-step app automation in Wear OS 7, such as making a reservation or placing a restaurant order from your wrist.
Controlling media from your watch is getting easier with a new output switcher, where you can route audio output from one connected device to another, like headphones or a Nest speaker. Google says smart glasses like the upcoming Xreal collaboration will also work with Wear OS for head-up notifications and quick replies.
The update also brings improved health tracking algorithms, with more accurate heart rate monitoring during high-intensity workouts and better automatic workout detection. The new Emergency SOS system can share your location with emergency contacts and display critical medical information on the watch face when activated.
Wear OS 7 represents Google’s continued investment in the smartwatch platform, closing the gap with competitors like the Apple Watch while leveraging Google’s AI capabilities to differentiate the experience.
