When you’re shopping for a wearable, one of the first questions you face is form factor: does a watch or a ring make more sense for you? Casio’s latest option lets you have your wearable cake and eat it too — sort of.
Casio has been selling ring watches for a while now, including an adorable G-Shock model, and they’re a genuinely clever idea for gadget fans. Worn on your finger, they look exactly like tiny versions of a Casio digital watch, complete with a working clock face, stopwatch, and calendar. Now the company appears to be adding smart ring functionality to its most popular model yet.
The Casio CRW-H001M-8 will launch first in China for roughly $294 including local taxes. Its sensor tracks heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep, and body temperature, and the ring will also count steps and estimate calorie burn. Casio promises a battery life of about four to six days per charge.
Most industry-leading smart rings don’t have much visual flair — Oura and its rivals tend to ship plain metal bands. So the idea of a ring with a sly wink to classic watch design is a welcome arrival. Hopefully it makes its way stateside soon.
