Vivo proves that with just a few minor compromises, you can bring the price of a flagship smartphone well under €1,000 without sacrificing that premium feel. The X300 FE is compact yet packs a massive battery with endurance that puts many far more expensive phones to shame.
The camera system uses slightly smaller sensors than Vivo’s top-tier devices, but many of them are actually more light-sensitive than those in the larger models — and they delivered genuinely impressive image quality in our testing. The Zeiss-branded telephoto lens only sweetens the deal.
While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 isn’t quite a flagship-tier SoC, it’s more than enough for the vast majority of tasks. The premium build quality, fast charging, speedy UFS 4.1 storage, and generous 12GB of RAM are all welcome additions. The only real sacrifice is the lack of a high-speed USB port — but the seven-year update commitment more than makes up for it.

Design and Build
Visually, the Vivo X300 FE stands apart from its larger siblings. The camera module sits in an oval-framed strip spanning the full width of the body, rather than the circular module on the higher-end X300 models — a design that echoes Google’s Pixel aesthetic. Zeiss branding makes it clear that quality optics are packed inside.
Red and dark grey are the color options; internationally, a green version is also available. The back is made of matte glass, and paired with a metal frame, it feels genuinely premium. The phone is rock-solid — it didn’t bend at all during our testing. Slim bezels around the display give it a thoroughly modern look.
Weighing just over 190 grams, the X300 FE is notably lightweight while still offering IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance. The one disappointment: it only has USB 2.0, missing the fast USB 3.2 port found on flagship models. It comes with 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM; a 256GB variant is available in some markets.
Display
The Vivo X300 FE features a bright AMOLED display — though it can’t quite match the very best phones. That said, it offers HDR support, accurate color reproduction, and a high PWM rate of over 360Hz, which is good news for those sensitive to screen flickering.
The 6.31-inch panel runs at 2640×1216 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. In our tests, it delivered excellent contrast (infinite:1 with true blacks) and strong color accuracy (Delta E of just 0.62 in the ColorChecker test). Peak brightness hits 2035 cd/m2 in APL18 mode, and HDR peak brightness reaches 2100 cd/m2 — plenty for outdoor use.
Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 can’t quite keep up with Qualcomm’s elite-tier chips or the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, but it’s still a very capable SoC that handles the vast majority of tasks with ease. Geekbench 6 scores of 2,857 (single-core) and 9,276 (multi-core) put it right in the mid-range sweet spot.
Thanks to ultra-fast UFS 4.1 storage, data transfers are snappy and load times are minimal. Wi-Fi 7 performance is outstanding — we measured peak transfer speeds of 1,958 Mbit/s on our Asus RT-BE96U router, with rock-solid stability throughout testing.
The main concern is thermal management. Under sustained load, the phone reaches up to 46.7C — noticeably warm — and the SoC throttles by about 30%. It’s fine for everyday use and gaming sessions, but heavy users pushing prolonged workloads may notice the drop-off.
Camera
The main camera packs 50 megapixels with an f/1.57 aperture, using the Sony IMX921 sensor. It delivers excellent photos with crisp detail and faithful reproduction of tricky colors like red and yellow. Even fine details come through clearly.
The telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom. Since its focal length is already twice that of the main camera, this gives an effective hybrid zoom of up to 6x. Photos look great up to 10x zoom; beyond that, AI takes over post-processing all the way to 100x, which produces soft results — but it works well enough as a binocular replacement.
The 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera takes decent snapshots, though it lacks precision in fine details. The 50-megapixel front camera handles selfies beautifully, with good detail and solid dynamic range.
Battery Life
With a 6,500 mAh battery, the X300 FE is generously equipped. In our Wi-Fi browsing test, it lasted an impressive 24 hours and 45 minutes — solid, if not class-leading (the OnePlus 15T offers an extra 1,000 mAh). Charging is fast at up to 90W wired, and wireless charging hits up to 40W.
Software and Updates
Vivo promises seven years of security updates and five major Android version upgrades — a commitment that rivals Apple and Samsung. Security patches are current as of May 2026 and arrive roughly every two months.
Verdict
The Vivo X300 FE is a compelling package for anyone who wants flagship-quality camera performance, all-day battery life, and a compact form factor without paying flagship prices. The compromises — USB 2.0, some thermal throttling, an average ultra-wide camera — are reasonable trade-offs for a phone that costs significantly less than its bigger siblings. Factor in seven years of updates, and this is one of the best value propositions in the mid-premium smartphone space right now.
