Samsung is preparing to launch its first pair of smart glasses — entering a market currently dominated by Meta. Codenamed Jinju internally, the device is expected to launch under the Samsung Galaxy Glasses name when it ships later this year.
Built in collaboration with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, the Galaxy Glasses represent Samsung’s second Android XR device, following the Galaxy XR headset.
Design and Hardware
The first model skips a display entirely — no AR overlay, no screen. Instead, the glasses rely on audio and a built-in camera that feeds visual data to Google Gemini. Leaked renders show glasses that look like ordinary eyewear, weighing around 50g, with thin temples and a camera built into the frame.
Expected specs include a 12MP Sony IMX681 camera with autofocus, a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chip, stereo speakers and dual microphones, Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi, photochromic lenses, a touchpad on the right temple, and an LED indicator when the camera is active.
Software and AI
The glasses run Android XR with Gemini built in. Gemini can translate signs and conversations in real time, summarize notifications, manage your calendar, play music, and take photos hands-free. The glasses pair with both Android phones and iPhones, and some functions can be controlled from a Galaxy Watch.
Battery and Pricing
Battery capacity is still unconfirmed, with reports ranging from 155mAh to 245mAh. Estimated battery life is around 6 to 8 hours of typical use. Pricing hasn’t been officially announced, but analysts expect it to be competitive with Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories line.
Why This Launch Matters
Samsung faces stiff competition — Meta already controls 82% of the smart glasses market. But Samsung has one crucial advantage: it beat Apple to market. Apple’s first smart glasses (codenamed N50) have slipped from late 2026 to late 2027, giving Samsung and Google a significant head start.
Combined with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Watch 9 expected at the July 22 Unpacked event, the Galaxy Glasses could be the most talked-about product in Samsung’s 2026 lineup.
