Meta’s next AI glasses are reportedly designed with prescription lenses in mind

Meta is Doubling Down on Prescription-Ready AI Eyewear

For those of us who can’t navigate the world without corrective lenses, smart glasses have often felt like a secondary thought—an add-on rather than a core feature. However, Meta is looking to change that. Reports from Bloomberg suggest that the tech giant is preparing to launch two new models of its Ray-Ban AI glasses specifically tailored for the prescription-wearing crowd.

More Than Just a Custom Order

While you can currently order prescription lenses for Meta’s existing smart frames, these upcoming iterations represent a shift in strategy. Instead of treating vision correction as an optional upgrade, Meta and Ray-Ban are designing these frames from the ground up for this demographic.
The new lineup is expected to feature both rounded and rectangular styles, likely distributed through traditional eyewear channels to make the transition from standard glasses to AI glasses seamless for the average consumer.

The Tech Behind the Frames

Industry insiders believe these devices are the production versions of the “Scriber” and “Blazer” models previously spotted in FCC filings. According to The Verge, these filings indicate that the hardware is nearing its final form. While it is still unclear exactly how these differ from current models, early signs suggest they may not include a display similar to the Meta Ray-Ban Stories, focusing instead on integrated AI capabilities.

A Vision for the Future

This move aligns perfectly with Mark Zuckerberg’s long-term goals. During a previous earnings call, the Meta CEO highlighted the massive scale of the global eyewear market, noting that billions of people rely on vision correction. Zuckerberg envisions a future where the distinction between “regular” glasses and “AI” glasses completely disappears, eventually making smart frames the global standard for everyone.

Expect an official announcement as early as next week, as Meta attempts to turn a medical necessity into a high-tech lifestyle accessory.
