Google unveiled its first screenless health tracker, the Fitbit Air, earlier this month, and early reports are coming in from people who pre-ordered it that deliveries have started to arrive. The device’s official release date is May 26, and pre-orders were supposed to start arriving then. However, some customers are receiving their units early, and early adopters are running into pairing issues.
The problem appears to be related to the companion app. When trying to pair the Fitbit Air with an Android phone, users are seeing a message that the device requires an updated version of the Google Health app, but that update may not be available to them yet.

Google has confirmed the issue and stated that the team is working on a fix. A Google product team member responded on Reddit to one affected user, saying Google is doing its best to “accelerate the rollout of the updated app on Android” to accommodate early deliveries, and that it should be “available shortly.” Interestingly, this is not an issue on iOS, where the update is already live.
If you’ve received your Fitbit Air early and are having trouble pairing it, stay patient — the fix is on its way.
