A new report from Bloomberg has revealed Apple’s Mac hardware roadmap for the next two years, outlining a steady stream of chip upgrades and new form factors.
Coming later this year
Apple is planning to release a new entry-level MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip before the end of this year. The same timeframe allegedly applies to several new iMacs as well.
The MacBook Ultra with OLED touchscreen, expected in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, is reportedly “on track for release between the end of this year and early next year.” It will be powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The Ultra is reportedly being tested with macOS 27.1, which is expected to become available at the end of October, meaning the hardware won’t launch before then.
2027 and beyond
An updated MacBook Air is coming in early 2027. Later next year, Apple plans a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro with the M7 chip, and a new MacBook Neo powered by the A19 Pro chip. The MacBook Neo will reportedly be “periodically” refreshed with new colors as well.
A Mac mini with M5 Pro and base M6 chips is in testing, alongside Mac Studio models with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. However, the release timing for these desktop machines remains unclear, reportedly depending on “the state of memory-chip supplies.”
Looking further ahead, a MacBook Air with an OLED display could arrive as early as 2028, followed by an OLED iMac.
The roadmap suggests Apple is diversifying its Mac lineup more aggressively than in recent years, with the MacBook Ultra and MacBook Neo representing entirely new product categories. The shift to OLED displays across the lineup also signals Apple’s continued move away from LCD technology.
