LG Corp. Chairman and CEO Kwang Mo Koo visited Nvidia headquarters in Santa Clara to sign a memorandum of understanding with CEO Jensen Huang, formalizing a broad AI collaboration spanning robotics, data centers, and autonomous vehicles.
Humanoid Robot by 2027
The headline announcement: LG plans to unveil a bipedal humanoid robot in Q1 2027, powered by Nvidia’s Jetson Thor (2,070 TFLOPs compute) and the Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model for reasoning and movement.
Near-Term: Factory Robot CLOiD
More immediately, LG’s wheeled CLOiD robot will deploy in its Tennessee washing machine production line later this year. The factory serves as a proving ground — once CLOiD proves useful there, LG plans to scale it to global production facilities, then commercial spaces and eventually homes.
AI Factory Initiative
LG is building a reference AI data center based on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin architecture, targeting H1 2027 readiness. That knowledge will feed into an “LG AI Factory” in Cheonan, South Korea, by H1 2028 — an 80 MW compute cluster for training LG’s own AI models for robotics.
The AI Factory doubles as a showcase: LG wants to sell validated, turnkey data center solutions to other companies. It’s part of the “One LG” strategy, pulling batteries, sensors, and actuators from LG Energy Solution, LG Innotek, and LG Electronics.
Self-Driving Vehicle Platform
LG will develop next-gen AI-Defined Vehicles on Nvidia Drive Hyperion, integrating autonomous driving and in-cabin AI services into LG-made infotainment (IVI) systems. The goal: provide global OEMs with hardware that combines self-driving capability and cabin intelligence.
Competitive Context
Samsung recently launched a Robotics Experience division targeting humanoid robots, factory automation, and robotic arms — while its Harman subsidiary is already a major automotive electronics player. The Korean tech giants are on a collision course in physical AI.
