Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event brought the Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Z Fold8 Ultra, along with some bad news: all the foldables got more expensive this year.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is $100/€100/£100 more expensive than the Z Flip7, and there’s no FE model this time around as a cheaper alternative. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is similarly $100/€100/£100 pricier than its predecessor—the Z Fold7, since Samsung rebranded its large book-style foldable with the “Ultra” moniker.

Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at a lower price than the Z Fold 7 did at launch. That’s because the Fold8 is an entirely new form factor—shorter and wider, closer to a passport shape—and not a direct replacement for last year’s flagship. It also lacks a telephoto camera, which helps keep the price down.
The Z Fold8 Ultra at $2,099 is the true successor to the Z Fold 7, carrying a $100 premium that Samsung attributes to the ongoing memory chip shortage affecting the entire industry. The same shortage is responsible for the price increases across the Z Flip8 and other devices in the lineup.
