The founder of TV Time, the social media app that helps you track every show and movie you have ever watched, is building a brand new replacement called Bingers — and it is expected to launch by the end of July.
TV Time traces its roots back to 2011, when founder Anthony Pinto started it as a “funny side project” under the original name TVShow Time. What began as a hobby quickly grew into something much bigger. The app cultivated a passionate user base, rebranded to TV Time, and was acquired by Whip Media in 2016. By 2021, the platform had crossed 20 million registered users worldwide. It was later sold again to Blue Torch Capital, which had plans to steer the app toward a more AI-focused future.
But that future never fully materialized for TV Time itself. The company recently announced that the app would shut down on July 15, stating that it “was no longer sustainable to continue operating the service as a free app.” For millions of loyal users who had logged years of viewing history, it felt like the end of an era.
Enter Bingers. Pinto promises that this time will be different. He says the new app is being built “in a way that keeps server costs very, very low” and that it “can stay around forever this time.” Bingers is described as an app that includes all of TV Time most beloved features, “refreshed with modern UI patterns,” and significantly faster than its predecessor.
Bingers will be available on both the App Store and Google Play Store by the end of July. The website already offers a way to import your TV Time history into the new platform, though it currently redirects to a waitlist signup. Once launched, Bingers will face competition from popular alternatives like Serializd and Letterboxd, which was reportedly exploring a sale of a majority stake.
For the millions of TV enthusiasts who built their digital viewing diaries on TV Time, Bingers represents a second chance — and perhaps a more sustainable one this time around.
