Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake gives Dark Link a crested shield and a sharper look

The upcoming Switch 2 remake of *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* has just been given a fresh visual boost, and the new footage reveals a noticeably upgraded Dark Link. In a 30‑second Japanese television spot that aired earlier this week, Nintendo’s home‑grown studio briefly pits the shadowy doppelgänger against Link in the iconic Water Temple arena. The clip, released barely three weeks before the game’s November 5, 2026 launch, confirms that Dark Link returns as the Water Temple’s mini‑boss and showcases a redesign that adds a crested Hylian Shield and a sharper overall silhouette.

The commercial opens with a dramatic shot of Ganondorf tinkering on a pipe organ before cutting to a rapid montage of combat scenes. The centerpiece, however, is Dark Link’s fleeting appearance: after a split‑second of hovering above the battlefield, he flips mid‑air and lands directly on Link’s blade, recreating a memorable moment from the 1998 Nintendo 64 original. The new model’s details—tightened musculature, a more defined facial profile, and the prominently displayed crest on his shield—give the enemy a fresh, more intimidating presence.

In the classic game, the showdown takes place in a mist‑filled chamber where shallow water laps the floor and a solitary, dead tree dominates the center. Players must approach a sealed door, confront a lone, motionless replica of Link, and watch as Dark Link mirrors every sword swing, blocks careless strikes, and defends the treasure chest containing the Longshot. The original encounter often ended with Dark Link perched atop the player’s weapon, forcing frantic button mashing to dislodge him. The Switch 2 trailer highlights this same tactic, emphasizing how the upgraded enemy now reacts more dynamically to player input.

Nintendo has also announced that the remake will feature “timed boss rematches” as part of its Hall of Fallen Foes update, adding a competitive layer to the experience. Pricing is set at $59.99 for the digital edition and $69.99 for the physical copy, with the title slated to hit shelves on November 5, 2026. This visual overhaul and updated mechanics promise to give longtime fans a fresh take on one of the series’ most beloved battles.
