Xiaomi puts the Redmi Note 17 Pro through extreme durability tests
Xiaomi is set to unveil the Redmi Note 17 series on July 14, and the company is making sure everyone knows just how tough the new Pro model really is. A newly released teaser video puts the Redmi Note 17 Pro through a brutal durability gauntlet — and it comes out swinging.
Football kicks, firehoses, and durian
In the video, multiple Redmi Note 17 Pro units are mounted on a robotic arm acting as a goalkeeper, deflecting penalty shots in World Cup spirit. But that’s just the warm-up. The phones are then bombarded with nuts and even a durian — the famously spiky Southeast Asian fruit — before facing the ultimate test.
The teaser shows a firefighter’s hose blasting the phone with an incredibly powerful jet of water — strong enough to shatter windows and push a car. The Redmi Note 17 Pro, which carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, survives the ordeal without issue.
IP69K rating and Gorilla Glass Victus 2
The Pro model’s toughness comes from a combination of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and an IP69K dust and water resistance rating, making it one of the most durable phones Xiaomi has ever produced.
What about the cameras?
A team shot of both models reveals that the vanilla Redmi Note 17 will feature a single rear camera — rumored to be a 50MP sensor. The Pro version, on the other hand, sports a dual-camera setup, with one of those sensors rumored to be a 200MP unit (though Xiaomi has not officially confirmed this).
The Redmi Note 17 was recently certified for global markets alongside what appears to be a similar device under the Poco brand. Whether the international version matches the Chinese variant — and whether the Pro model will launch outside China — remains to be seen. All will be revealed on July 14.
