A tablet that runs PC games natively
RedMagic has dropped more details about its upcoming gaming tablet ahead of its June 30 launch in China, and the headline feature is a surprise: a built-in PC emulator that lets you run AAA PC games directly on the device.
The company shared a Weibo video demonstrating the emulator in action, showing games running through a proprietary translation layer integrated into its Game Space app. This layer enables x86 applications to run on the tablet’s ARM-based architecture, opening the door to an enormous library of PC titles.
Specs that mean business
The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is packing serious hardware:
- Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
- Display: 9.06-inch OLED, 2.4K resolution, 185Hz refresh rate, up to 1,600 nits peak brightness
- Battery: 8,500mAh with 80W fast charging
- Ports: Dual USB Type-C
- Cooling: Liquid cooling system
The emulator supports importing game libraries from Steam or installing games via EXE files, with support for up to 2K resolution at 144Hz. A RedMagic controller was shown paired with the tablet in the demo video.
Global launch and positioning
RedMagic is expected to launch this tablet globally under the name RedMagic Astra 2. The combination of high-refresh OLED, top-tier silicon, and PC gaming emulation positions it as a unique offering in the Android tablet space—one that could appeal to gamers who want a portable alternative to a gaming laptop.
