Portable USB DVD writer compatible with Android and iPhone sees 50% price cut to $39 — ODD reads/writes CDs at 24X, DVDs at 8X

The Discore 9-in-1 DVD Power Hub is currently making waves on Kickstarter with early bird pricing starting at just $39 — a 50% discount off the anticipated $79 retail price.

The campaign launched on June 28, 2026, with a modest funding goal of just $500. But within a week, it’s already raked in over $45,000 from more than 750 backers — proof that there’s still strong demand for optical drives done right.

Why the buzz?

What sets this drive apart from most external optical drives is its compatibility with iOS and Android devices alongside traditional PCs. That means you can access and even burn discs directly from your smartphone or tablet (with compatible software).

Nine ports, one hub

It’s not just a DVD writer — it’s a full 9-in-1 hub. Beyond CD read/write speeds of up to 24X and DVD read/write speeds up to 8X, it also packs an SD card reader, a microSD card reader, four USB-A ports, and one USB-C port.

Discore claims speeds of up to 10Gbps and 160MB/s for SD cards using UHS-I. The hub connects to devices via an integrated cable with both USB-A and USB-C connectors, rated at USB 3.2 Gen 2.

Built for creators

Discore is clearly targeting photographers, videographers, and creators who still rely on optical media alongside portable SSDs and hard drives. Instead of carrying multiple adapters and readers, this single hub covers all bases. The silver-white aluminum-alloy enclosure keeps it lightweight while ensuring optimal heat dissipation.

Broad compatibility

The hub supports iPadOS and Android devices with OTG functionality, plus Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux. Discore positions it as a bridge between old and new — optical drives may be fading from modern laptops, but plenty of memories are still stored on CDs and DVDs.

Pricing and availability

Early bird pricing started as low as $35, but good early bird prices of $39 per unit are still available at the time of writing. Multi-buy discounts bring it to $69 for two and $89 for three. International shipping adds $7–15 per unit. Mass production is on track to begin this month, with shipping starting in August. The campaign closes on July 13.
