The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G focuses on steady improvements rather than groundbreaking innovations. A faster Exynos SoC, IP68 certification, and efficient battery life enhance this mid-range smartphone, while the camera and display show only modest gains. At its current street price, however, the A37 remains a solid choice.
With the Galaxy A37 5G, Samsung delivers a well-balanced mid-range smartphone that builds on the strengths of its predecessor. The design remains largely unchanged but stands out with quality materials, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, and a new IP68 certification. The plastic frame is barely noticeable in everyday use; only the glossy back is highly prone to fingerprints.
Under the hood is the Exynos 1480, which clearly outperforms its predecessor’s Snapdragon in system performance and also makes much better use of UFS 3.1 storage. This ensures a smooth user experience for everyday tasks, but the SoC reaches its limits with demanding games. Less impressive is the base configuration with only 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, especially since Samsung still does not include a microSD slot.
The triple-camera system has gone through only a slight redesign. Higher pixel counts improve picture quality in low light, but overall, photos remain somewhat soft and tend to be overexposed in daylight. The front camera stands out as a positive feature, supporting UHD video recording. The Super AMOLED display impresses with vibrant colors and high brightness in everyday use, though it achieves lower HDR peak values than its predecessor and continues to rely on low-frequency PWM dimming.
Connectivity features are fully equipped, with 5G, Wi-Fi 6, dual-SIM (including eSIM), and good call quality. Despite its relatively small 5,000 mAh battery, the Galaxy A37 delivers long battery life and charges fully in under 70 minutes at up to 45 watts.
The bottom line is that the Galaxy A37 5G is not a major generational leap but rather a successful model refresh. At its original list price, it did not stand out enough from the competition, but at its now significantly lower street price, the smartphone impresses with a well-rounded total package and long-term update support.
